It is too late, but at least it's being done. I wish the recognition had been given to Sparky while he was still able to appreciate his place in the history of the Tigers.

I'm sensitive on this issue because my mother suffers from dementia and I honestly think losing your memories and knowledge of how to do the most basic things, like walking, eating, talking, while your body lives on is just cruel. Fortunately, the person with dementia is rarely (and later never) aware of what they've lost, but the family witnesses and grieves every single loss.

A ceremony to retire Sparky's number while he was still alive would have given him yet another special memory of the Tigers, and his family could have shared that with him.

I agree with you that he'll be looking down from above. I haven't been to a Tigers game since the old Tiger Stadium, but on that day, I will have a ticket and I will go to honor his memory and his place in Detroit Tigers history.

Has anyone made a video telling the Cleveland fans what they should do?
How about letting it go. I don't see you coming to the defense of those players who get traded. But the one guy who (smartly) decides to get out of Cleveleand is a villain, public emeny # 1. Seriously? What makes them feel so entitled? When did it become okay for fans to do anything other than cheer and boo?
We all have our own agendas, we all do what we feel is right for us, and if you had a choice to be with your friends in Miami or live in Cleveland, what would you do?
It's time to move on Cleveland. The past is behind you.

Wow! That's really cool that you have a personal connection with Mr. Ilitch. He is one-of-a-kind and I wish him well. There's no doubt that he will do what is best for the city and the region.

I vote for #1 as well. I can't imagine the Wings being anywhere but downtown in Hockey Town USA. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Mr. Ilitch. I attended high school with his children and what he did for the Wings and Detroit, he first did at our school. His generosity in enclosing our hockey rink contributed to the team's success, eventually winning the State Championships in 1983. I'm happy to see that he is looking to make a bid for the Pistons. I have no doubt that he would do what is best for the team and the city.

I don't think we're seeing the whole story; there has to be a reason why they're asking him back. This will be an interesting story to follow.

Is the situation with the Shock an example of what will happen with the rest of the league? All things being equal, when you compare the two leagues (NBA and WNBA) fan support is overrated (the Shock packed 'em in on many a playoff run), being financially stable is a far greater measuring stick.
